We took the 10 to the bus station then left on the 10:00 bus to Nerja. It’s such a pretty ride – I’m going to miss the mountains, olive trees, bridges, and the coast. We got to our hostel and when we checked in they gave us this sweet room for the four of us and as soon as we set our stuff down they came in and told us we were in the wrong one. Turns out Christine, Sara, and their friend were in that one and we got stuck in two small separate rooms with a bathroom to share. Anyway, we changed and headed straight for the beach but ran into the feria of Nerja – the Festival de San Isidro. It was basically a parade of covered wagons being pulled by bulls (oxen I was later told), flamenco dancers, horses, and plenty of music, food, and drinks. We finally made it through the shoulder to shoulder crowd and walked down to a beach just below the Balcón de Europa. It had really nice sand and BEAUTIFUL water. There were quite a few people there but it wasn’t too crowded thankfully. We spent the whole day just lounging in the sun and playing in the big waves, what a great day! At one point Taylor realized she had gotten plenty of sun so she sprung for a “havana” (not a “cabana”) but when the guy came to collect he caught me laying on one and almost made me pay for it..oops.
We came back and showered and relaxed watching some tv for a little bit (CNN in English) then decided to grab some dinner. We knew of a good pizza place to go to but when we got there it was closed for the feria.. like everything else in the town. We finally found a café/bar across from our hostel and got some pizza there. We were starving since we just had bocadillos for lunch so afterwards we went the gas station to stock up. After that we walked down to the beach and hung out watching the sun fade and listening to the waves. We started talking and getting a little too sentimental but then we ended up walking all along the shore, running around like fools, and just being crazy. When we came back we bothered Whitney and Cassandra and hung out in their room for a while before we had a mini water fight in the hall and went to bed. It was definitely one of the most fun nights I’ve had this semester!
